Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2025

AutoCV ("we", "our", or "us") built this app as a community platform for car enthusiasts. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account informationDisplay name, username, email address, phone number, and a hashed (never plain-text) password. A profile photo is optional.
  • Car listingsMake, model, year, engine size, horsepower, acceleration, description, and photos you attach to your cars.
  • Posts & commentsText content, photos, and tags you include in posts or comments, along with timestamps and visibility settings.
  • MessagesContent of private and group chat messages, together with sent timestamps. Messages are stored on our servers to enable delivery across devices.
  • Service center listings (company accounts)Business name, country, city, street address, GPS coordinates, operating hours, and services offered (name, description, price).
  • Device locationApproximate or precise GPS location, requested only when you use the map feature, to center the map on your position. We do not store or log your location.
  • Device tokenA Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token and a device label (e.g. "iPhone 15") stored so we can deliver push notifications to your device. You can revoke these tokens from your account settings.
  • Session dataHTTP-only authentication cookies (access token and refresh token) used to keep you signed in. These are never readable by JavaScript.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data listed above solely to operate AutoCV:

• Authenticate and manage your account

• Display your profile, cars, and posts to other users

• Enable private and group messaging

• Show service centers on the map and let users find them

• Send push notifications for chat messages and activity

• Power in-app search across users, cars, posts, and service centers

• Verify your email address during registration and password resets

3. Third-Party Services

  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)We pass your FCM device token to Google's FCM service to deliver push notifications. Google's privacy policy applies to this data: policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Map tilesThe in-app map loads map tiles from our own tile server. No personal data is sent as part of tile requests.
  • Google Maps (directions)Tapping "Get Directions" opens an external URL on google.com/maps. AutoCV passes the destination coordinates only. Google's privacy policy governs that interaction.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database. Passwords are never stored in plain text — only a cryptographic hash is kept. Connections between the app and our servers use HTTPS. Authentication tokens are issued as HTTP-only cookies to reduce exposure to client-side attacks.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not share your information with advertisers or analytics providers. Data is shared with third parties only as described in Section 3 (Firebase, Google Maps).

6. Your Rights

You may at any time:

• Edit your profile information from the account settings

• Delete your account and all associated data permanently from the account settings

• Revoke push notification access by removing FCM tokens from your logged-in devices list

• Deny location access via your device's system settings — the app remains fully functional without it

7. Children's Privacy

AutoCV is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
